Gujarat Leaders Flag Off 182 Buses for Each Assembly Constituency
Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation operates a fleet of over 8,000 buses daily, covering approximately 3.3 mn kilometres and providing safe, reliable and timely services to more than 2.7 mn passengers. Additional State Transport buses are operated during festivals and religious fairs to meet surges in demand and to enable people to travel for celebrations. The corporation described the services as vital for linking urban and rural communities.
The state government provides financial assistance to the corporation each year for fleet renewal and expansion. In 2024-25 a total of 1,963 vehicles were deployed for public service, including 963 Super Express buses, 550 Gurjar Nagari buses, 100 sleeper buses and 350 midi buses. Under a public private partnership model planning has been undertaken to operate 200 modern Volvo and air conditioned buses and further introductions have been phased to augment services.
The newly inaugurated 182 buses were reported to be worth Rs 620 mn and are expected to improve connectivity and commuter convenience across the state. The launch was attended by Principal Secretary of Transport Hareet Shukla, Transport Commissioner and GSRTC Managing Director Rajender Kumar and senior officials of the State Transport Corporation. Chief Minister Patel, the Deputy Chief Minister and other ministers extended greetings to the public and conveyed best wishes for efficient operation and expanded access to transport.
