The Haryana Public Works Department (PWD) has officially transferred a nine-kilometre stretch of Mandi Road—from Chhatarpur Metro Station to Gurgaon-Faridabad Road—to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The route has faced prolonged congestion due to its narrow lanes and poor infrastructure.

The move aims to leverage NHAI’s experience in managing large-scale infrastructure projects, especially those involving land acquisition. Originally planned in 2012, the project has an estimated cost of Rs 5.97 billion, with Rs four billion allocated for land acquisition. Despite receiving approval from the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Centre (UTTIPEC) in March 2023, progress had been limited due to challenges like land disputes and the presence of farmhouses.

The project will widen the road from its current width of 8–18 metres to 30 metres, requiring about 16.9 hectares of land. The upgrade is intended to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and improve daily commutes.

Additionally, the PWD is assessing a proposal for an elevated road on the nearby 100 Foot Chhatarpur Road, a busy corridor known for traffic snarls due to banquet halls and religious sites. The inclusion of both roads under NHAI is under discussion with central authorities.
