Delhi Metro Floats EOI For Local Production Of Platform Screen Doors

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has floated an expression of interest (EOI) to encourage domestic production of platform screen doors (PSDs) for urban rail stations in India. The notice is intended to attract manufacturers to establish local capacity for design, fabrication and assembly of PSDs and allied components. The move follows efforts to enhance station safety and operational reliability across the metro network.

Platform screen doors are intended to prevent unauthorised access to tracks, improve passenger comfort by enabling better climate control within platforms and reduce energy losses from station ventilation. Adoption of PSDs is also aimed at supporting smoother train operations by reducing incidents that cause service delays. Technical requirements for PSDs include alignment with train door positions and reliable interfacing with signalling and control systems.

Localising production is presented as a step to reduce import dependence, shorten supply chains and develop a domestic vendor base. The initiative is aligned with national manufacturing priorities and is aimed at stimulating job opportunities and skill development in engineering and fabrication. Manufacturers will be able to bid to supply full systems as well as individual components and services for installation and maintenance.

The procurement process is described to prioritise compliance with specified standards, long term durability and life cycle maintenance considerations. Proposals will be assessed on design capability, quality assurance and readiness to integrate with existing systems. Pilot installations and phased rollouts are envisaged to validate performance before broader deployment.

Industry analysts will observe how the EOI influences procurement timelines and vendor selection across metropolitan networks. The DMRC initiative is framed as part of wider efforts to modernise urban rail infrastructure while encouraging domestic manufacturing and supply chain resilience.
