Tenders Invited for Phase-1 of Vijayawada Metro Rail Project

The Andhra Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (APMRCL) has issued an international e-procurement tender for the construction of Phase-1 of the Vijayawada Metro Rail project, marking a major milestone for the city’s long-awaited metro network.

The tender, floated under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) model, invites open online bids from qualified contractors through international competitive bidding.

Phase-1 will span a total of 38.40 km across two corridors. The scope of work includes:
  • Construction of a metro viaduct
  • A 4.7-km double-decker flyover-cum-metro viaduct
  • One underground metro station
  • 32 elevated stations

According to APMRCL Managing Director N.P. Ramakrishna Reddy, Corridor-1 will extend from Pandit Nehru Bus Stand (PNBS) to Gannavaram Bus Stand along NH-16, covering key commercial hubs. Corridor-2 will link the Bus Station to Penamaluru, serving dense residential areas in the eastern suburbs.

The metro project aims to reduce traffic congestion, lower vehicular emissions, and offer fast, affordable, and eco-friendly transit options. Spain-based TYPSA Consultancy has been appointed as the design and technical consultant for the project.

Corridor-1 will also feature a 4-lane flyover integrated with the metro structure, making it one of the first such dual-level infrastructure initiatives in Andhra Pradesh.

Interested bidders can access the tender documents and submit proposals via the APMRCL website (https://amrc.ap.gov.in) or the state procurement portal (https://apeprocurement.gov.in).

The Vijayawada Metro is expected to significantly improve public transport infrastructure and support the city’s sustainable urban development goals.
