In New Delhi, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah inaugurated the Land Port Management System VINIMAY developed by the Land Ports Authority of India. He presented the system as a central element of a Smart Borders strategy to strengthen border security, facilitate trade and enhance people-to-people connectivity. The launch included senior ministry and agency officials.

The LPMS integrates cargo management, vehicle processing and inter-agency coordination on a single digital platform and will eliminate nearly 90 per cent of paperwork while introducing a Single Electronic Window and ANPR gate operations. Truck waiting times are expected to reduce by approximately 40 per cent to 60 per cent and gate processing times by 22 per cent to 35 per cent, and real-time data sharing among ICEGATE, the Motor Vehicle System, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Border Security Force (BSF), Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and ULIP is intended to enhance coordination. The Authority said it will join the national Smart Security Grid.

Land port trade has risen from Rs 50 bn in 2014 to Rs 830 bn today, reflecting a sixteen-fold increase over twelve years and underscoring the ports' growing economic role. Fifteen land ports are operational and eleven additional ports are planned over the next three years, with the Authority linking the infrastructure to reduced migration from border districts and stronger local economies. The system is expected to boost tourism, trade and cultural exchange.

The Ministry cited social progress alongside the technical launch, noting delivery of 40 million (40 mn) pucca houses with construction under way for a further 20 mn and a claim that 250 mn people have moved above the poverty line. It also cited 810 mn beneficiaries of free food grains, 580 mn Jan-Dhan accounts and 440 mn Ayushman Bharat cards providing health cover of up to Rs 0.5 mn. The Authority described the LPMS as a foundational element of national economic and physical security.
