CMA CGM eyes Indian yards for LNG vessel builds

French shipping major CMA CGM is in advanced talks with Indian shipyards to build LNG-powered container vessels, as part of its India expansion strategy. The company is also investing in port and inland logistics infrastructure, including a $200 million expansion at Nhava Sheva Freeport Terminal and involvement in the Vadhavan Port project. CMA CGM aims to scale up Indian-flagged fleet capacity and establish maritime innovation hubs. It is exploring India’s ship recycling market and sourcing green steel and containers locally. Discussions align with India’s maritime ambitions under initiatives such as the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC).
