Telangana allots Rs 1200 cr for ORR phase-II drinking water plan

The Telangana government has allocated Rs 1,200 crore in the budget to extend the availability of drinking water in municipalities and urban local bodies (ULBs) near the outer ring road (ORR) phase-II.

The ORR-II drinking water supply project aims to deliver 137 million gallons of potable water to complete the requirements of nearly 20 lakh people in extended areas and municipalities.

Under the water supply project, 2,836 km of the new pipeline is being laid out.

KT Rama Rao, Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), laid the foundation stones for OR-II work.

The budget also allotted Rs 900 crore to the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) for paying bank loans for different infrastructure projects.

In Greater Hyderabad, the budget has allotted Rs 300 crore reimbursement for executing the 20 kilolitre free water supply scheme to cover the revenue loss.

An official told the media that the budget allotment for HMWS&SB is not that high.
