The demarcation of land for installing boundary pillars along the Hanogi-Manali stretch of the Kiratpur-Manali national highway has begun, as confirmed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and local authorities. In the presence of revenue officials and village pardhans, the NHAI's land acquisition department and the Kullu forest department have issued orders to mark government land and install pillars along the national highway.
The installation of pillars has already been initiated on the Nerchowk-Pandoh section and part of Bilaspur, while the Pandoh-Manali stretch will proceed once land demarcation is completed. Despite the road project commencing in 2013, the concrete pillars with GPS coordinates, intended to be installed on both sides of the Kiratpur-Manali highway, have not been fully implemented.
In 2021, the Ministry of Environment and Forests directed the NHAI to install boundary pillars to prevent deviations in road alignments, but no action was taken despite requests from the Bilaspur forest department. The NHAI had previously claimed that the pillars had been installed on the Kiratpur-Bilaspur section of the highway, as stated by Madan Sharma, the General Secretary of the Bilaspur-based Fourlane Visthapit and Prabahavit Samiti.
