Ahmedabad roads of 6,244 km to undergo repairs

01 Dec 2021

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) informed the High Court that the city's roads and buildings department would ensure that no newly laid or resurfaced roads will be dug by Road Opening (RO) or utility agencies. Between September 2021 to July 2022, the RO agencies, including a municipal corporation, the state government, central government, semi-government and private utilities, are to dig 25,315 road stretches of about 6,244 km of roads.

Within ten months, the agencies will bore 3 lakh pits into city roads for installing underground junctions for civic utility pipelines and cable networks.

The utility service providers will dig between 10.46 km to 3,274 km of roads.

According to an AMC official, the AMC ended up paying for the road repairs if the utility company did poor network repairing work after digging.

AMC will spend Rs 1,385 sq metre for filling potholes of about 75 mm depth.

This year, AMC paid Rs 176 crore for the road repairing and repairing 25,623 potholes, from which 4,333 potholes were in the western part of the city.
