Mumbai one card boosts metro ridership to 50 mn on 2A & 7 lines

The Maha Mumbai Metro Corporation (MMMOCL) announced that the passenger traffic on Mumbai Metro's lines 2A and 7 had exceeded 50 million, reaching 5,05,22,330 between April 2, 2022, and September 24, 2023.

According to a release by MMMOCL, certain stations like Andheri West, Anand Nagar, Dahanukar Wadi, Dahisar (E), Kandivali (W), and Borivali (W) had emerged as popular destinations for commuters. The release also highlighted the positive adoption of the Mumbai One Card, stating, "Approximately 40% of daily passengers, a total of 1,49,556 people, have opted for this convenient payment method."

This shift towards the Mumbai One Card not only improves convenience for commuters but also reduces the reliance on paper tickets, contributing to a more eco-friendly environment. The Mumbai Metro Line 2A, spanning 18.589km from Dahisar to Andheri West, is fully elevated and encompasses 17 stations.

Similarly, the Mumbai Metro Line 7, covering 16.495km from Dahisar East to Gundavali, is also fully elevated and includes 14 stations. Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, IAS, who serves as the CMD of MMMOCL & Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, expressed his contentment with the growing ridership, stating, "Mumbaikars are increasingly opting for the Metro as their preferred mode of transportation, and witnessing a 5% growth every month is a significant achievement."
