Wayanad district's road under construction sustains damage

01 Jul 2023

It was reported that an under-construction road in Kerala's Wayanad district had collapsed due to heavy rain and had been washed away into a nearby river.

It was observed that the heavy rains in the State had caused rivers to overflow, and locals had made allegations that the concerned authorities had not constructed a culvert or placed pipes on the side of the road to drain the water, resulting in the collapse of the Mananthavady-Walayar road, which was nearing completion.

If a culvert had been constructed to drain the water, the collapse of the road could have been prevented.

It was observed that the road was filled with mud due to the continuous rainfall. Hence, the local residents requested the construction of a culvert.

But their pleas were ignored. As a result, the road has collapsed, shattering the dreams of the villagers. The residents are uncertain about the duration required to complete its construction. They plan to protest against the officials' apath.

It was noted that the under-construction road followed the path along the river, stretching from Kulathada to Valad.
