Andhra Pradesh Targets 200,000 Rooftop Solar Connections
During a review meeting in Tirupati, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand emphasised the need for effective field-level monitoring by APSPDCL and the New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) to ensure quality execution and long-term performance of rooftop solar installations. He also called for faster implementation of renewable energy projects and electric vehicle charging infrastructure, supported by clear timelines and accountability.
Highlighting the importance of consumer-centric implementation, he urged intensified awareness campaigns, simplified approval processes and faster commissioning of rooftop solar systems. He stressed that meter installations should be carried out promptly without inconvenience to consumers and warned that lapses would invite strict action, with divisional and assistant divisional engineers held personally accountable for deficiencies and complaints.
The state government aims to achieve 150,000 rooftop solar connections by March 2026, with the remaining installations to be completed by May 2026. Progress will be reviewed at the upcoming Collectors’ Conference in February.
Officials noted that under PM-KUSUM Component-C, feeder solarisation projects with a capacity of 1,162.8 MW are under implementation, covering nearly 293,000 agricultural pump sets. Under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, APSPDCL accounts for around 35 per cent of the state’s coverage, benefiting more than 207,000 households from scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities.
Senior officials from the Energy Department, APSPDCL, NREDCAP and district administration participated in the review meeting, underscoring the state’s focus on accelerating renewable energy adoption and strengthening sustainable power infrastructure.
