Tata Power Builds 2.8 GW+ Data Centre Opportunity Pipeline
The pipeline includes approximately 430 MW of upcoming load under Tata Power’s distribution network, 1,236 MW of transmission-linked opportunities and 1,150 MW of green energy capacity under active engagement. Its offerings extend beyond electricity supply to powered land, grid connectivity, renewable energy, storage, cooling systems and utility infrastructure for hyperscalers and advanced digital facilities.
Tata Power is upgrading its 110 kV and 220 kV transmission network in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to meet rising requirements from hyperscale data centres. The company is increasing transformation and transmission capacity, adding network redundancy, developing receiving stations and advancing a 400 kV transmission ring network. The work is part of its Rs. 150 bn Mumbai Grid Upgradation and Expansion Plan.
The company said its integrated presence across generation, transmission and distribution supports participation across the data centre value chain. Ministry of Power projections, based on Central Electricity Authority estimates, indicate that artificial intelligence-led data centres could add approximately 26.3 GW of electricity demand by FY31-32.
Tata Power has more than 26 GW of operational and under-construction capacity, including approximately 17.7 GW of clean and green energy and around 8.8 GW of thermal generation. Its wider portfolio includes over 7,800 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, more than 13 mn distribution customers, 4.9 GW of integrated solar cell and module manufacturing capacity, 2.8 GW of signed pumped hydro storage projects and over 7,000 public electric vehicle charging points across 717 Indian cities and towns. The company has set a Net Zero target for 2045.
