Pace Digitek has secured an engineering, procurement and construction contract and long-term operation and maintenance assignment from NLC India Renewables for a 250 megawatt (MW) / 500 megawatt hour (MWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Tamil Nadu. The company stated in a regulatory filing that the turnkey order is valued at Rs 7,099.19 mn including GST. NIRL issued the tender in January and awarded the contract nearly five months later.

Under the scope of work, Pace Digitek will undertake design, engineering, supply excluding power transformers, manufacturing, forwarding, unloading, storage at site, erection, testing and commissioning for the project. The company will also provide comprehensive operation and maintenance services for 12 years at the Ottapidaram substation, the Annupankulam substation and the Kayathar substation. The scheduled commercial operation date for the entire capacity is set at 12 months from the date of the letter of award.

The BESS is to be connected to TANTRANSCO substations at the three sites and configured for a two-hour daily charge and discharge cycle. Battery modules are required to incorporate lithium-ion cells using either lithium ferro phosphate (LFP) or nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) technology in an optimised configuration and to include integrated monitoring systems for cell voltage, current flow and temperature parameters. The bid will remain valid for acceptance for 180 days from bid opening.

This represents Pace Digitek's second BESS order for fiscal year 2027 and follows strong momentum in fiscal year 2026 when the company reported energy segment order inflows of Rs 58,147 mn driven by demand in battery storage and renewable linked opportunities. With the latest award, year to date energy segment order wins have reached Rs 14,119 mn and cumulative energy segment order wins stand at Rs 97,869 mn. The tender price is lower than a previous Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation project for a 375 MW / 1,500 MWh BESS that was awarded at the lowest discovered tariff of Rs 0.315 mn per MW per month.
