The Prime Minister inaugurated the Kaynes Technology semiconductor plant in Sanand, Gujarat, marking the commencement of production at the facility. He noted that he had been in Sanand on 28 February for the start of production at the Micron plant and returned a month later for the Kaynes milestone, underlining the momentum of India’s semiconductor journey. The visit was presented as evidence of the speed at which the domestic semiconductor ecosystem is developing.

The Prime Minister congratulated Kaynes Technology, the Gujarat government and the workforce and welcomed the entry of an Indian company into semiconductor chip manufacturing. He noted that Kaynes had joined the global semiconductor supply chain and that the facility was already supplying Intelligent Power Modules to a California company, with a large share of output booked for export. He said the development built a new bridge between Sanand and Silicon Valley and would enable modules made in Sanand to reach global firms.

He highlighted the strategic importance of the Intelligent Power Modules for the electric vehicle ecosystem and heavy industry in India and overseas and described global partnerships as foundational to a better future. The Prime Minister framed the milestone as part of India’s emergence as a reliable semiconductor supplier in the global market. He also reflected that recent disruptions in global supply chains have impeded progress and that a democratic country advancing in this direction was important for global development.

He recalled that the India Semiconductor Mission was launched in 2021 and said self-reliance in semiconductors would cascade into capabilities in artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, clean energy, defence and electronics. Work is underway on ten projects worth over Rs 1.6 trillion (tn) across six states, with the Kaynes and Micron projects integral to the effort. He also drew attention to the indigenous Dhruv 64 microprocessor as a secure processor platform for 5G infrastructure, automotive electronics and industrial automation.
