Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off the Delhi–Faridabad metro extension, inaugurating the new line that is expected to ease travel for around 0.2 million (0.2 mn) daily commuters between the national capital and the Haryana industrial hub. The extension links Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad and will integrate with existing metro services. Officials described the move as a significant enhancement of last-mile connectivity in the National Capital Region.

The project cost was reported at nearly Rs 25 billion (Rs 25 bn). Haryana bore Rs 15.57 billion (Rs 15.57 bn), the central government contributed Rs 5.37 billion (Rs 5.37 bn) and Delhi Metro provided Rs 4 billion (Rs 4 bn). The nine stations on the corridor are Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar, all of which are elevated along Delhi–Mathura Road (NH-2).

A Haryana government spokesperson said the nine-station corridor was 95 per cent indigenously built and would offer a safe, affordable, quick and comfortable transport option. The spokesperson added that the service would be reliable, environment-friendly and sustainable and would support commuter demand across the region. Authorities highlighted the roles of local construction and equipment sourcing in meeting the indigenisation target.

Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and suggested the service would elevate the city’s progress through improved links with other towns in the National Capital Region. He indicated that the Prime Minister would announce a go-ahead for a metro link between Gurgaon and Faridabad, signalling further regional integration. Officials said planners would now focus on operational readiness and integrating feeder services to maximise commuter convenience.
