Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gujarat on March 31 to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for urban projects, the Gujarat Chief Minister's Office said. Under the Smart City Mission, six cities — Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Gandhinagar and Dahod — undertook 359 projects worth about Rs 115.07 billion (bn), of which 357 projects valued at Rs 112.77 billion (bn) have been completed and two projects worth Rs 2.29 billion (bn) are nearing completion. The state framed the works as part of two decades of urbanisation and a push for world-class civic services.

Major corridors such as the Jamnagar-Bathinda Highway, Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway and Porbandar-Dwarka National Highway are under construction, and two greenfield expressways will span 430 km and 680 km. Sudarshan Setu now links Dwarka and Beyt Dwarka with approach roads and parking. Metro services have been extended, Phase two of the Ahmedabad Metro is complete and Surat has ordered 24 trainsets.

Hirasar greenfield airport was built at a cost of Rs 14.05 billion (bn) and Surat International Airport was developed for Rs 34 billion (bn), while regional connectivity has improved under UDAN. 18 of 89 railway stations redeveloped under the station modernisation programme have been inaugurated.

Under AMRUT two point zero, water supply projects costing about Rs 6.30 billion (bn) reached 82,328 households and sewerage works worth about Rs 5.76 billion (bn) covered 24,206 households, creating an additional sewage treatment capacity of 67 MLD and 113.31 km of new sewer lines. Officials said the work has improved sanitation and public health.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban delivered 919,204 homes in urban Gujarat and Rajkot's Lighthouse Project supplied 1,144 monolithic homes; PMAY Urban two point zero has approved more than 0.1 million (mn) houses. The State Budget for 2026-27 allocated Rs 335.04 billion (bn) to urban development and Rs 161.16 billion (bn) for the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri scheme, with Rs 12.78 billion (bn) for sports and transport to prepare cities for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
