As many as 111 pillars have been built, and 342 more pillars will be constructed to establish an elevated metro rail line between Porur and Poonamallee in Chennai Metro’s phase 2 project, covering 7.94 km.
The line is being constructed for Rs 1,147 crore. The Porur-Poonamallee line, which is likely to open by June 2023, is part of corridor-3 of the 118.9 km phase-2 from Lighthouse to Poonamallee. On the Porur-Poonamallee route, work is also underway to build a 2.3 km viaduct from Kumananchavadi junction to Karayanchavadi. At present, pillars are being built at Kattupakkam. M A Siddique, who took charge as the managing director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) on Tuesday, inspected the construction site between Poonamallee and Saligramam earlier this week. In Chennai Metro’s phase 2 project, the work on the elevated line of the Poonamallee-Lighthouse corridor between Poonamallee and Power House at Kodambakkam has been speeding up with the first pair of U-girders established on the pillars close to Sri Ramachandra Hospital.
