Coal India Limited has commissioned a 100 Megawatt (MW) solar plant in Gujarat as part of a wider diversification initiative. The plant represents a move by the state miner to expand its energy portfolio beyond coal and to support cleaner generation options. The project was described by the company as operational and integrated with local distribution networks.

The plant will supply power for onsite use and for feed into regional grids to assist local demand management. Company officials said the capacity will help moderate electricity costs for operations and reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with thermal generation.
