Coal India (CIL) aims to produce 1 billion tonne of coal by 2025-26 and has planned 52 coal mining projects, including 13 new coal blocks. This includes expanding underground mining operations to produce higher-grade coal, reducing India's coal imports. CIL produced 703 mt in 2022-23 and targets 780 mt this year.
