Coal India Invests Rs 12.09 Billion in Solar Projects

Coal India Ltd (CIL) has allocated Rs 12.09 billion towards the development of 661 MW of ground-mounted solar power projects. The state-owned company aims to scale up its solar capacity to 3,000 MW by the 2027-28 fiscal year. This includes planned additions of 211.59 MW in FY25, 697.85 MW in FY26, 1,235 MW in FY27, and 785 MW in FY28, according to Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy's statement in the Rajya Sabha. To ensure timely project completion, CIL has stationed its engineers on-site for regular monitoring and coordination with statutory authorities to expedite necessary clearances. Singareni Collieries and NLC India Ltd have also made significant investments in solar energy. Singareni Collieries has spent Rs 1182 billion, while NLC India has allocated Rs 67.23 billion for solar projects. CIL, responsible for over 80% of India’s domestic coal production, is increasingly diversifying into renewable energy to support the country’s energy transition goals. (TOI)
