Tata BlueScope Steel, a joint venture between Tata Steel and BlueScope Steel, celebrated 25 years of excellence with its flagship brand COLORBOND® steel in India. As part of the celebrations, the company announced plans to expand its business in Gujarat. It has supplied colour-coated steel products and solutions to some of the state’s prominent projects. The 25th anniversary celebrations began with the corporate video journey of Tata BlueScope Steel. It was followed by a lot of power-packed performances, customer-centric initiatives, the launch of their official TBSPL app and awards in various categories of Enduring Partnership Awards, Brand Ambassador Awards, Build Your Bold Awards, Emerging Star Performer Awards, among others. But the grand finale and highlight was the launch of three products Prisma, Proshine and Truclad. Mahendra Pingle, General Manager, Market Development, Tata BlueScope Steel, offered an interesting insight into what makes COLORBOND® steel the preferred choice for architects. He said, “Architects make beautiful designs but suppliers need to ensure that they select the right kind of product for these buildings. We are not talking only about aesthetics but about the product’s durability and its thermal efficiency.” Making a comment in terms of construction waste, he said, “After demolition, reuse of steel up to 93 per cent has been observed. So it’s at least 30 to 35 per cent more profitable in terms of embodied energy. Reducing the carbon footprint should begin from the process of selection of construction material itself.” In terms of pollution he said, “If there’s a large surface with synthetic paint and water falls on top of it, over time water mixes with the chemicals in paints. Leaching from paint products happens as water washes down a painted surface or as paint deteriorates, allowing chemicals to find their way into the soil, leading to groundwater contamination. People are not looking at this seriously. Going forward, if you talk about building the next generation, we have to see if the product that has been used is good enough for the future.” The Way Ahead On the occasion, Anoop Kumar Trivedi, MD, Tata BlueScope Steel, calling upon fellow Tata Blue employees (or Tabluvians) said, “As we celebrate 25 years of COLORBOND® steel in India, we carry forward a legacy of excellence.” He concluded saying, “This would not have been possible without the contribution of each one of you.” The company said that going forward the focus will not only be on providing sustainable solutions but also on educating construction industry professionals to build with confidence, reliability and environmental responsibility.
