...

India is the second-largest ceramic tiles producer in the world, accounting for 7 per cent of global production. Increasing housing demand accounts for 70 per cent of the total tile demand in the country. Rising domestic consumption and exports will drive the ceramics industry, with major export markets being the Middle East and Europe; in fact, 20 per cent of the total ceramics export is shipped to Saudi Arabia. Initiatives like Make in India, Housing for All, Swachh Bharat and the Smart Cities Mission are expected to generate volume-driven growth, resulting in economies of scale. The Indian tiles, sanitaryware and bathroom fittings market size reached $ 8,124.8 million in 2022, and is expected to reach $ 12,750.4 million by 2028, according to IMARC Group, with a CAGR of 7.3 per cent. Rapid urbanisation, favourable government initiatives promoting housing and sanitation, consumer preferences for aesthetics and wellness, sustainability, and ongoing technological advancements and innovations are among the key factors driving market growth.Government schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojna (PMAY) and Swachh Bharat are expected to play a pivotal role for the building materials segment, with cement, tiles and sanitaryware, paints and construction material companies all standing to benefit. Further, stricter implementation of GST will enhance growth prospects, especially for organised players. Also, the upward revision in customs duty from 10 per cent to 15 per cent on ceramic roofing and wall tiles will help domestic tile manufacturers and reduce import dependency.
