Wonderla Launches First Amusement Park in Tamil Nadu

Wonderla Holidays, India’s largest amusement park chain, has inaugurated Wonderla Chennai, its first park in Tamil Nadu and fifth nationwide. The park was formally inaugurated by Thiru M.K. Stalin, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, in the presence of state ministers, senior officials and dignitaries. It opens to the public on 2 December 2025.

The launch marks the culmination of a decade-long journey that began with an MoU signed with the Government of Tamil Nadu in September 2015. Despite delays during the COVID-19 period, the project was completed with continued government support and timely facilitation of approvals. Developed with an investment of Rs 6.11 billion, the park is expected to generate 1,000 direct jobs.

Wonderla Chennai features 43 world-class rides across thrill, family, kids and water categories and can accommodate up to 6,500 visitors per day. Ticket prices start at Rs 1,489, with early-bird online discounts and concessions for college students with valid ID, along with seasonal and group offers.

Speaking at the inauguration, Arun K. Chittilappilly, Executive Chairman & Managing Director, Wonderla Holidays Ltd., said, “The launch of Wonderla Chennai is a significant milestone in our journey, and we are truly honored to have the Hon’ble Chief Minister and distinguished leaders from the Government of Tamil Nadu with us today. Their sustained guidance and support have been instrumental in transforming this vision into reality. Tamil Nadu is a dynamic and forward-looking state, and we are committed to further investing, expanding, and contributing to its tourism and entertainment ecosystem in the years ahead. With Wonderla Chennai opening to the public tomorrow, we look forward to welcoming guests from across the region and building a long-term partnership with the state.”

Situated along the Mahabalipuram corridor, a major tourism destination, the park is expected to boost the region’s family entertainment appeal and support ancillary economic activity. Wonderla has also initiated collaborations with local artisans specialising in Thanjavur and Marapachi dolls to promote cultural engagement and livelihood opportunities.

The park incorporates sustainability features including a 3.75 crore litre rainwater harvesting system, 1,000 KW solar panels (Phase 2), 32,000 sq m of green zones with 1,000 native trees and extensive natural ventilation and locally sourced materials.

With Wonderla Chennai, the company strengthens its leadership in the Indian amusement and leisure sector and reinforces its expansion across southern markets.
