Rajasthan Inaugurates First SME Semiconductor Plant

The Electronics Manufacturing Cluster at Salarpur, Khushkhera, Bhiwadi, and the semiconductor ATMP/OSAT facility of Sahasra Semiconductors Pvt. Ltd. were virtually inaugurated by the Union Minister for Electronics and IT, with state and central ministers in attendance. The launch marks Rajasthan's entry into semiconductor manufacture and aligns with Make in India, Digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. The Union Minister said the development is a strategic milestone reflecting rapid growth in the electronics sector over the last 12 years.

The EMC occupies 50.3 acres and has been developed at a project cost of Rs 460.9 million (mn), with direct Government support of Rs 202.4 mn under the EMC scheme. Established by M/s ELCINA Electronics Manufacturing Cluster Pvt. Ltd. as a special purpose vehicle of industry players, it offers uninterrupted power and water, internal roads, testing and training facilities and a skill development centre. Its proximity to the National Capital Region and multimodal connectivity position it as a destination for electronics component manufacture.

The cluster has attracted planned investments of over Rs 12 billion (bn) by 20 companies, with 11 units currently operational and cumulative investments in excess of Rs 9 billion (bn), generating employment for over 2,700 persons. Firms include Sahasra Semiconductor and Sahasra Electronics alongside component and EV parts manufacturers, covering semiconductor packaging, RFID and industrial electronics. The cluster will support supply chains and training in collaboration with sector skill bodies.

Sahasra Semiconductors has begun commercial production with an investment of over Rs one point five bn. The 57,000 sq ft unit has Class 10K and 100K cleanrooms and an annual packaging capacity of 60 million (mn) units. Management plans to scale to nearly 400–600 million (mn) units within two to three years and more than 60 per cent of output is exported. The facility will pursue R&D and workforce training with ESSCI and institutes.
