Reliance Industries Shares Surge 11.6% After Record Q2

Reliance Industries shares closed 11.6 per cent higher at Rs. 1,300 on Monday after the company reported record results for the July-September quarter. The stock became the top gainer on the Nifty 50, the biggest positive contributor to the index and the most actively traded share on both the NSE and BSE.

The company’s market capitalisation stood at Rs. 17.59 tn after the rally. The broader market also advanced, with the Sensex rising 1,233 points, or 1.7 per cent, to 75,693, while the Nifty gained 388 points to close at 23,441.

Reliance Industries reported an all-time high consolidated revenue of Rs. 3.62 tn, up 28 per cent year on year. Earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) increased 24 per cent to Rs. 624.09 bn, while net profit rose 34 per cent to Rs. 295.5 bn, making the quarter the company’s strongest on record.

The oil-to-chemicals business delivered its best quarterly performance, with revenue increasing 44.2 per cent to Rs. 2.32 tn and EBITDA rising 67.9 per cent to Rs. 252.03 bn. Transportation fuel cracks, which indicate refining margins, increased to between three and 3.7 times their year-earlier levels. Jio Platforms also reported an 11.3 per cent increase in revenue to Rs. 474.85 bn, while EBITDA grew 16.6 per cent to Rs. 218.79 bn.

Goldman Sachs and Nomura retained their Buy ratings on the stock after the results. Goldman Sachs set a target price of Rs. 1,840 per share, citing a 9 per cent EBITDA beat led by the oil-to-chemicals business, while Nomura set a target of Rs. 1,560. Both brokerages noted steady telecom growth, although they identified softer retail performance linked to changes in festive demand and investment in digital commerce. Goldman Sachs also said refining margins could moderate in the December quarter because of higher very large crude carrier freight costs.
