Delhi-Faridabad Expressway Cuts Peak Drive to 45 Minutes

The final stretch of the Delhi-Faridabad expressway corridor has been completed, with a trial run reducing the peak-hour journey from Sarai Kale Khan to Sohna and Palwal from about three hours to 40-45 minutes. The development was announced by South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri after an inspection of the route.

The DND-Faridabad-Sohna Access Controlled Highway, also known as NH-148A, will link Delhi, Faridabad, Sohna and Palwal with Haryana’s wider expressway network. The route connects Sarai Kale Khan with Jaitpur and Meethapur before extending towards Faridabad and joining the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway network.

Bidhuri inspected the stretch with Union road transport and highways minister Nitin Gadkari while the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) carried out load testing and other technical evaluations. The 59 km NH-148A corridor is supported by a further 9 km section of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway between the DND Flyway and Jaitpur.

The Delhi section between the DND Flyway and Jaitpur has opened on a trial basis and is currently toll-free, with a speed limit of 40 kmph. The 50 km Haryana section, running from Jaitpur towards Sohna and the KMP Expressway, has moved beyond its trial phase and is operational with toll collection in place.

The route is intended to provide an alternative for commuters travelling between Delhi and southern Haryana. Bidhuri said it would ease congestion at Ashram Chowk, Kalindi Kunj and Mathura Road, while reducing travel time and fuel consumption. The journey from the DND Flyway to Faridabad could take about 20 minutes, compared with around 30 minutes through the Ashram-Badarpur border section. NHAI is continuing technical evaluations before final operational arrangements are completed, with the corridor’s inauguration proposed for later this year.
