Kerala Gets Rs. 9.89 bn for 39 Road Projects Under CRIF

The Centre has approved Rs. 9.89 bn for 39 road development projects across Kerala under the Central Road and Infrastructure Fund scheme. Construction on the projects is scheduled to begin in December, according to state Public Works Minister P K Basheer’s announcement on Sunday, 31 October.

The infrastructure package will support the development of 486.33 km of roads across the state. The works will cover major district roads, ordinary district roads and corporation roads, with a significant portion of the allocation directed towards the Malabar region.

A total of Rs. 5.7 bn has been earmarked for 21 projects in the Malabar region. The projects will be implemented in the northern Kerala districts of Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram.

The state government has already granted administrative sanction for the works. The approval allows the projects to move towards the remaining technical and financial clearances required before construction begins.

Basheer said the clearances would be completed within the stipulated timeframe to enable work to start in December. The projects are expected to improve road connectivity across the participating districts and strengthen access between local areas and larger transport networks.

The Central Road and Infrastructure Fund is used to finance transport and other infrastructure works across India. In Kerala, the latest allocation includes projects across multiple categories of roads, extending the benefits beyond a single highway corridor or urban area. The focus on Malabar is intended to address infrastructure requirements in the state’s northern districts, while the wider package will support road development across the state.
