No Demolition Planned for BC Road-Roop Nagar Flyover

The Public Works Department’s concept plan for the proposed BC Road-Roop Nagar flyover in Jammu does not envisage the demolition of any structures during project execution. The clarification comes amid concerns that construction along one of the city’s most congested stretches could require large-scale demolition or land acquisition.

The plan proposes an intermediate elevated structure that would remain largely within the existing road corridor. It would be supported by single, small-diameter pillars positioned along the middle of the road, allowing construction without disturbing buildings and other structures on either side.

The flyover would begin on BC Road a few metres before Rehari Chungi Chowk and extend towards Roop Nagar, where it would land at the T-junction. The elevated facility is planned for two-way movement, with each tube measuring around 5.5 metres in width. A second tube would rest a few metres ahead of Ambphalla Chowk towards Manda as part of the wider elevated traffic arrangement.

The project is intended to address persistent congestion along the Ambphalla-Janipur corridor, which carries heavy traffic through Ambphalla, Janipur, BC Road, Rehari and nearby residential and commercial areas. Traffic bottlenecks become particularly severe during peak hours as vehicles converge from several directions and local traffic competes for limited road space.

The proposed elevated route is expected to provide an alternative for through traffic and separate a portion of vehicle movement from traffic at road level. However, work has not yet started. Following government approval of the concept plan, the department will prepare a Detailed Project Report and proceed with tendering and work allotment. Construction is scheduled to begin during the next financial year if the required procedures are completed, with the project expected to take two to three years to finish.

Cement Prices Likely to Rise Rs. 10-15 per Bag from Mid-October

Cement manufacturers in India are likely to raise prices by Rs. 10-15 per bag from mid-October, as they seek to offset persistent increases in power and fuel costs. Emkay Research said its channel checks indicated a high probability of an increase from October 12, supported by the start of the busy construction season and favourable demand-supply conditions. The sector had implemented similar rate adjustments of Rs. 10-15 per bag during the first quarter, but the increases were insufficient to cover higher operating costs. Prices also softened during July and August because of the monsoon, wid..
