Prime Minister Flags Off Delhi Faridabad Metro Extension

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off the Delhi–Faridabad metro extension that is expected to allow hassle free travel for around 200,000 daily commuters between the national capital and the industrial hub in Haryana. The extension links Badarpur with Escorts Mujesar in Faridabad and is intended to ease congestion on road corridors while offering a faster and more reliable alternative for regular travellers. Officials indicated that the new link is part of broader efforts to integrate transport networks across the National Capital Region.

The cost of the project from Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar is reported as nearly Rs 25,000 million (mn). The finance structure shows that the Haryana government bore Rs 15,570 mn, the central government contributed Rs 5,370 mn and the Delhi Metro provided Rs 4,000 mn, reflecting a joint funding model that spread capital expenditure across state and central agencies. The funding pattern is designed to accelerate completion while limiting the fiscal burden on any single authority.

The section comprises nine stations, namely Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar, all of which are elevated and sit on either side of the Delhi–Mathura Road (NH two). A Haryana government spokesperson said the corridor was 95 per cent indigenously built and would provide commuters with a safe, affordable, quick, comfortable, reliable, environment friendly and sustainable transport facility. The elevated alignment is expected to reduce interference with surface traffic and ease last mile connectivity options for adjacent neighbourhoods.

Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and indicated that the new service would elevate the city’s progress by improving links with other towns in the NCR. He also stated that the Prime Minister would announce approval for a Metro link between Gurgaon and Faridabad, signalling further regional integration. Officials said the extension is likely to influence modal shift from private vehicles to public transit, supporting urban mobility goals and emission reduction targets over the medium term.
