Thar Dry Port Opens As Rajasthan Gateway To Global Trade

The Thar Dry Port intermodal container depot at Hirnoda near Jaipur was inaugurated by the Industry Minister and developed by Hasti Petrochemicals and Shipping Limited as a new gateway for Rajasthan to global trade. The facility is intended to provide direct rail access to the ports of Mundra and Pipavav in Gujarat. Officials said the project advances the state's plan to emerge as the logistics hub of north India.

The dry port lies 55 kilometres from Jaipur and is set to serve industrial clusters including Mahindra SEZ, Bagru, Dadu, VKIA and Sitapura, as well as manufacturers in the Alwar district. Handicrafts, garments, marble and engineering goods can use direct port links to reduce transit times and logistics costs. The ICD also connects to major road networks to support first-mile and last-mile movements.

The project has been developed on more than 100 acres with an investment of Rs three billion (Rs 3 bn). It is designed to handle over 250,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually and has been established under the Government of Rajasthan's Rising Rajasthan initiative and the Government of India’s PM Gati Shakti Mission. Developers say previously unproductive land has been transformed into an integrated multimodal logistics hub.

The facility provides high-capacity container handling and storage, on-site customs clearance to speed EXIM processing, warehousing and value-added logistics services. It offers seamless connectivity to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor and direct rail routes to Mundra and Pipavav to enhance supply chain efficiency. On-site infrastructure is intended to reduce dwell times and improve cargo throughput.

The ICD is expected to bolster export competitiveness across sectors such as handicrafts, textiles and apparel, marble and natural stone, engineering goods, agro-products and renewable energy equipment. The development is anticipated to generate direct and indirect employment and to stimulate industrial growth across the region. Stakeholders view the project as strengthening Rajasthan's position as a key hub for domestic and international trade.
