JSW Defence to Invest Rs 8 Billion in Telangana Drone Facility

JSW UAV Ltd, a fully-owned subsidiary of JSW Defence Pvt Ltd, has announced an investment of Rs 8 billion to set up an Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) manufacturing facility in Telangana.

The company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Telangana government to establish the facility. Additionally, JSW Defence has formed a strategic partnership with Shield AI, Inc., a prominent U.S. defence technology firm, to localise and manufacture Shield AI’s ‘V-BAT’ UAS in India.

The MoU was signed by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao and Parth Jindal of the JSW Group at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

This initiative follows the central government's move in September 2021 to extend the production-linked incentive scheme to drone manufacturing, which includes airframes, propulsion systems, power systems, batteries, and related components. The scheme aims to boost the growth of India’s domestic drone industry.
