Tamil Nadu sets up committee to probe Smart City works: KN Nehru

On Monday, Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply Minister, KN Nehru, said the State government is in the process of setting up a committee to examine the alleged issues in the Smart City projects. Minister further added that the probe in the projects will be expedited as new councilors are already elected.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) raised various allegations against the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) headed by the former regime over the smart city projects. He even blamed the haphazard practices undertaken when works were in process for the impact of torrential rains faced by Chennai, recently. AIADMK leader SP Velumani is the specific target who had handled this department in the preceding government.

While addressing the media after the launch of mosquito control measures via spraying larvicide over waterways by utilising drones in waterways, he stated that 3,463 personnel are engaged in the process of eradicating mosquitoes with the help of power sprayers, fogging machines, and vehicles with fitted thermal fogging machines.

He added that this spraying will be carried out in every part of the city, which includes the residential areas.

He assured that Greater Chennai Corporation’s newly added areas will get all infrastructure facilities such as sewage system, drinking water, and stormwater drains in some time and other related municipalities and corporations will be expedited. He said that the government plans to upgrade the suburban infrastructure adjoining municipalities and corporations in the state.
