The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is set to invest over Rs 1,200 crore for the new terminal at Guwahati Airport. The new terminal will be spread across 90,000 sq m, and will have 64 check-in counters, 20 self-check-in kiosks, and 16 self-baggage-drop counters, as well as eight immigration and customs counters. It is expected to have the capacity to handle 3,100 passengers at peak hours.
Other green features of the project include a solid waste management system, reuse of treated water for flushing and horticulture purpose, rainwater harvesting and use of efficient water fixtures. The terminal will also have six arrival luggage carousels, 20 aircraft parking bays, as well as 10 escalators and 25 elevators.
The new airport is expected to meet the futuristic demands of Guwahati and will further add to the infrastructural development of the city. The investment is also expected to help improve the state’s connectivity with South East Asian countries.
