The Jury... and how we did it.
The CWAB awards unveiled a new category last year to award excellence: NOTEWORTHY PROJECTS. Going by this year's theme - GLOCAL: Thinking Global, Acting Local - the aim was to recognise and award landmark and unique projects from across the country.
An opportunity for India's builders and architects to showcase their best work, nominations were open for projects across five segments of Residential, Commercial, Institutional, Hospitality and Interiors. Considering the encouraging response from the Interiors segment this year, the projects were further categorised as Interiors-Residential, Interiors-Commercial, Interiors-Hospitality and Interiors-Retail. Further, with sustainability being on the global agenda and companies such as Carrier Airconditioning & Refrigeration, India, by UTC offering solutions for projects that suit local requirements in India, the category of Sustainable Projects was added as well (turn to page 98).
Over 200 paid entries were received across categories, from which the editorial team shortlisted the best projects to be sent to an esteemed jury for assessment. The entire process was conducted online.
The eminent jury comprised Ar Dennis Rehill, Vice President + Design Director, WATG Urban, Seattle; Ar Brad Wilkins, Tall Building Practice Area Leader, Genster, Singapore; Prof Mat Santamouris, Professor- High Performance Architecture, University of New South Wales, Sydney; Shabnam Gupta, Principal Designer, The Orange Lane; MR Jaishankar, Chairman and Managing Director, Brigade Enterprises; and CN Raghavendran, CRN Architects and Chairman, IGBC Chennai Chapter.
The jury meticulously studied every project; and features pertaining to the theme GLOCAL carried special weight in the final selection, giving us the final list of Noteworthy Projects.
