- Samir Gandhi, Managing Director, Gandhi Automations Pvt Ltd.

With three of every four Entrance Automation or Loading Bay Equipment being sold or installed by Gandhi Automations Pvt Ltd, we delve further into their offerings in a chat with Samir Gandhi, Managing Director, Gandhi Automations Pvt Ltd. Gandhi Automations Pvt Ltd, started by manufacturing manual rolling shutters and then went on to importing automations for rolling shutters. They gradually enlarged their product portfolio namely automated gates, boom barriers, high speed doors etc. Around the year 2000, they introduced products which were primarily used in logistics and warehouse operations like dock levelers, dock shelters, sectional overhead doors, etc. Eventually they began to manufacture doors and gates using the latest structural and mechanical engineering software. Today, in India, they have a 70 per cent market share in door automation and loading bay equipment.

What have been your strategies to be ahead of the competition in the segment of entrance automation and loading bay equipment?
Since its inception Gandhi Automations have been continuously working on improving the products offered to clients and services attached to it. Instead of appointing dealers for marketing and selling our products we have direct contacts with all our clients as, a dealer may not be able to deliver with the same passion. We are expanding our current global presence and have started participating in international exhibitions. Recently, we had participated in R+T, Germany exhibitions. There, we have had the opportunity to exchange ideas with industry veterans. Many have expressed their desire to partner with us. We will be scrutinising proposals from different companies to discuss the possibilities of exporting in the respective countries.

How do you ensure safety standards in your offerings?
All our products are CE marked with highest available safety standards. These are arguably the best products you can get in their respective segments with state-of-the-art technology and user friendly features. We ensure that before the actual operation at client´s premises, all our products undergo vigorous inspection.

What are the after-sales services that you offer?
After the product is installed, we make sure that the customer is not hassled for maintenance of product or during breakdown. Our USP is after sales services along with AMC services to our existing clients. An AMC service is a part of our after sales service wherein we ensure that the products are working in normal state or if it requires any servicing. Similarly, to avoid any malfunction in the future, preventive maintenance is another safety measure which we provide to our clients periodically. We also have a dedicated customer service team available 24 x7.

Introduce us to your current production capacity. Do you customise your offerings, if required and from where is the technology sourced?
All our products are designed and manufactured along with a European collaboration using innovative and creative engineering technology. We have more than 18 years of experience in entrance automations field and we are equipped with knowledge of all industries. We have been providing automation products to pharmaceutical companies, warehouses, malls, manufacturing units, doors for shipyard, aircraft hanger doors etc. We are able to find right solutions for customers from any industry.

What are your growth or expansion plans in the near future?
We are aiming at a growth rate of minimum 15 per cent. With increased globalisation and countries opening up for business we see a great opportunity in neighbouring countries also. For instance in Myanmar, in the last few years, foreign investments have increased from $300 million in 2009 to $5 billion in 2014. The Myanmar government has relaxed import restrictions and abolished export taxes. Such policies boost our confidence and we will venture in such countries. Presently, our current target for export is Gulf countries and European countries. In coming years we will be aiming neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Indonesia, Bhutan, Sri Lanka and few African countries as well. By the year 2020, we are targeting 50 per cent revenue from export.
