Our market share has grown due to customer satisfaction

In India, the company manufactures a range of equipment, including backhoe and skid steer loaders besides lighting towers, walk-behind rollers and site dumpers. George Ellis, President, Construction, Terex Corporation, shares more on the company´s offering with SHRIYAL SETHUMADHAVAN. Please introduce us to the newly launched product. The new backhoe loader TLB740SE offers fuel-efficiency, consumption and power. It is ergonomically comforting to the operator who sits in the cabin all day long. The product works in rugged and harsh conditions making it durable. In terms of cabin design, what is the Indian requirement? Our customers demand large cabin size to have more room to carry equipment or manpower from one site to another. There is also demand for more visibility; hence, we have opened the cab for the operator to get a broader spectrum while working. Additionally, there are openings from the glass for more air flow. What is the current scenario for backhoe loaders in India? The market slowed a bit in 2014; it was a little over 20 per cent from the prior period in 2013. But our market share has grown due to customer satisfaction, while others´ has come down. Our new product will help us continue to gain market share. Markets will grow in India with more focus on infrastructure development. In less than 10 years, our share would be around 6 per cent of the total market share in India for backhoes. What are your expectations from 2015? We have a manufacturing plant in Pune and Hosur, an engineering facility in Bengaluru and a factory in Noida, which we see growing in 2015 as it sells volume. We are going to continue to invest and grow the company´s portfolio in India.
