Chennai Metro to get Alstom coaches next year

Alstom Transport, which has has a metro coach manufacturing unit in Sri City in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, near to Chennai, is gearing up to roll out the first train set for the Chennai metro rail project in early 2014. Alstom Transport is part of the French transport and energy infrastructure company Alstom SA. Alstom set up the facility at the special manufacturing economic zone in Chittoor, about 60 km from Chennai. The company has outlined an investment of about Rs 500 crore with a potential to employ about 400 people. The company manages entire transport system solutions, including rolling stocks (coaches), signalling and infrastructure, and offers turnkey solutions. It is stated to be among the leaders in the high speed rail/train sector.
