DDA plans to develop land outside city

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) plans to develop around 20,000-24,000-hectare land on the outskirts of Delhi and this may give several housing options to an additional 48 lakh people in Delhi by 2021. Under the recently-approved Land Pooling Policy, the DDA will develop the areas. DDA, in consultation with the Ministry of Urban Development prepared a plan for urban extension area on the outskirts of Delhi. The DDA officials have selected the areas strategically keeping in mind the future infrastructure needs. The areas along the major transport corridors and fringes of already urbanised areas have been earmarked for the urban development. The new sub-cities will be developed with all facilities and they would have housing options on the lines of residential development in Dwarka and Rohini, reports indicate. Officials involved in the review of master plan 2021 said the housing development would be coupled with all infrastructural developments. The plan envisages development of all the facilities such as schools, colleges and hospitals. The policy has several elements of public-private partnerships. Landowners, including farmers, can form consortiums and tie up with private builders or banks to consolidate their land parcels and develop the plots according to the zonal plans approved as part of the Delhi Master Plan-2021.
