Government to set up six nuke plants in Maharashtra

The Union Government has approved the proposal for setting up six nuclear power plants at Jaitapur in Maharashtra. The state government has added that work on two units of 1,650 MW each is expected to start in the current plan period. With the assistance from French company Areva, it plans to establish six units of Light Water Reactors, each of 1,650 MW capacity. The government has assured that there is no threat from the power plant and that at least eight such units are being built on the Light Water Reactors technology developed by Areva.
