Gujarat to have surplus power by year end

The Gujarat government aims to generate 7,000 MW surplus power by 2012 end. In 2001, the state had faced a shortage of power to the tune of about 2,000 MW. But, a power surplus state today, Gujarat currently has 4,000 MW of suplus electricity. The state government’s Jyotigram scheme provides round-the-clock power in the state, which was the first in India to have a solar energy policy, which was later adopted by the Union Government of India.
