MCLs thermal power project to seek nod

Coal India´s subsidiary Mahanadi Coalfield Ltd´s (MCL) first 1,600 MW pithead thermal power project is expected to be ratified at the company´s next board meeting. Once cleared, it will be sent to reach the Coal India board (CIL) for approval. Located in the Sundergarh district of Odisha, it is the maiden pithead thermal power project of CIL involving an investment of around Rs 10,000 crore. The project has been witnessing delay due to various issues including land acquisition, environment and forest clearance. Reports indicate that around 800 acre has already been acquired and water linkages are also in place. The plant will also utilise coal from MCL´s Basundhara coal mines in Odisha.
