The first unit of the Kudankulam nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu, which is working at about 70 per cent of its total capacity, is expected to run at its full capacity of
1,000 MW soon. The plant currently holds a capacity of 660-670 MW and the process of obtaining clarences for operating 90 per cent of its capacity is in progress. The plant also requires another clearance from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board to operate at full 100 per cent capacity.
