Orissa to launch power supply scheme for urban slums

The Orissa Government is planning to launch a new scheme called the Biju Saharanchal Bidyutikaran Yojana (BSBY) so as to provide electricity to the people living in un-electrified areas of slums in urban local bodies (ULB) of the state. The scheme will be funded by the state government and will be implemented in all the 103 local bodies in the state. The state has allotted Rs 18 crore for the implementation of this scheme. Each notified area council (NAC) will be provided Rs 30 lakh, while each municipality and corporation will get Rs 50 lakh and Rs 1 crore, respectively, under the scheme. Tenders will be floated for execution of the BSBY after the power distribution companies estimate the cost of the project, which will be done after the district electricity committee approves the scheme.
