In a move to benefit power projects based on imported coal, the power ministry plans to make amendments in the bidding documents for upcoming ultra mega power projects to accommodate changes in international coal prices. The power ministry has discussed this proposal with the coal and law ministries and is awaiting their response. Both Tata Power's Mundra UMPP and Reliance Power's upcoming UMPP had requested the power ministry to allow them to increase the tariffs of these projects owing to a rise in international coal prices.
