Sterlite plans power plant at Tuticorin

Sterlite Industries, a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources Plc, plans to invest around Rs 650 crore to set up a 2X60 MW coal-based power plant at Tuticorin. The proposed plant would not only cater to the power demand of the company, which manufactures copper smelter, but also bring down the consumption cost.

The company proposes an investment of Rs 2,300 crore to increase the capacity to 2,400 tonne per day from the current 1,200 tonne. The smelter will utilise the ISA Smelt technology currently used in the existing smelter at Tuticorin.
