Hubballi-Dharwad is constructing secured and eco-friendly buildings at the lowest cost. Although this has been in practice in cities like Mumbai for two decades, it is becoming popular in Tier-II cities such as Hubballi. Scarcity of sand and high-prices of other material are compelling people to opt for eco-friendly materials such as wire-cut bricks, which look like terracotta bricks. These bricks reflect radiation and keep the house cool. As there is no need of plastering for this wall, the cost of construction reduces to Rs 15 per sq ft, while the cost of construction with ordinary bricks is Rs 20 per sq ft.
