Delay in road projects doubles cost

Delay in the rehabilitation of Project Affected People and problems in land acquisition inflated the cost of the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) and Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) projects in Mumbai. The cost of both these roads has doubled since 2003 when their construction began.
The cost of the 3.7 km long SCLR escalated from the original Rs 1,14.96 crore in 2003-04 when work began to around Rs 254.76 crore in 2010, an increase of Rs 139.80 crore. In the case of JVLR, the original cost was Rs 1,19.40 crore in July 2003, when the work began. This escalated to aro-und Rs 221.45 crore in 2010 - an increase of around Rs 102.05 crore.
