Major Sea ports increase 5 per cent in cargo

India´s major sea ports handled 95.87 mn tonne of cargo during April and May 2014 as apposed to 91.48 mn tonne handled during the corresponding period previous year, an increase of 4.8 per cent. Of the 13 major ports, Kandla led the pack with 15.31 mn tonne followed by PPT, JNPT and Visakhapatnam, with volumes of over 10 mn tonne each. Chennai slipped to the sixth position and it was overtaken by Mumbai Port.
