The Union Ministry of Shipping has set a target of 23 port projects to be awarded on PPP basis in 2011-12. Currently, 29 private sector projects have been sanctioned and are in operation across the major ports. Around 20 more private sector projects are currently under various stages of construction. As per the current policy, port sector projects are awarded on PPP basis on build, operate and transfer (BOT) mode under the two stage bidding system.
